Darling Downs-Moreton Rabbit Board
The Darling Downs-Moreton Rabbit Board (DDMRB) was pleased to meet with Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities, The Honourable Mark Furner MP at Parliament House on 12 September. DDMRB Chair, Cr Janice Holstein (Lockyer Valley Regional Council) said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the outcomes of a recent review undertaken into the local government funding model under the Biosecurity Act.
“In discussing the review and potential ways forward, we were also able to emphasise the value to agriculture, the natural environment and communities from the work of the DDMRB in maintaining the rabbit barrier fence and working with landholders in our 28,000km2 operational area to identify and remove rabbit populations”, Cr Holstein said. “Minister Furner was particularly interested to hear about the 2,700 property inspections our compliance team undertake annually and was very receptive to our invitation to tour the rabbit barrier fence”.
