Lockyer Waters Community Centre Officially Opens, Providing Vital Resource for Local Residents

The Lockyer Waters Community Centre was officially opened on Saturday, marking a significant milestone for the local community. The Federal Member for Wright, the Hon Scott Buchholz MP, joined local residents and officials in celebrating the completion of the $850,000 project, which has been spearheaded by the Lockyer Valley Regional Council.

The new facility, designed with community needs in mind, features a semi-commercial kitchen, modern appliances, accessible bathrooms, a storage room, and a large undercover deck with both a ramp and stairs, leading to a concrete disability carpark. These enhancements make the centre an inclusive space that is well-equipped to serve the diverse needs of the community.

Mayor Tanya Milligan expressed her gratitude during the opening ceremony, particularly acknowledging the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Program. “The majority of this project was funded through the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Program, and we are deeply thankful for this support,” said Mayor Milligan. “This new facility is more than just a building—it’s a vital safe space for families and the entire community to come together, connect, and thrive.”

The project is a testament to the resilience and commitment of the Lockyer Valley community, coming at a time when recovery and rebuilding remain at the forefront of local priorities. The centre is expected to play a crucial role in fostering community spirit, offering a place where residents can gather, host events, and support one another.

The Lockyer Waters Community Centre stands as a beacon of progress and hope, symbolising the community’s dedication to creating inclusive and accessible spaces for all.
