A major reconstruction of one of Gatton’s busiest roads is set to get underway, with $2.82 million being invested to upgrade William Street.Lockyer Valley Regional Council will fully reconstruct a one-kilometre section of William Street between the Gatton Cemetery and Cochrane Street roundabout, replacing years of patchwork repairs with a smoother and more resilient road.
The project has received $2.22 million from the Australian Government through the Safer Local Roads Infrastructure Program, with Lockyer Valley Regional Council contributing approximately $600,000.
William Street is an important local corridor, providing access to Gatton Hospital, Lockyer District High School, Gatton State School, Gatton Cemetery and surrounding businesses.
Works will be delivered in two stages to help minimise disruption to residents, businesses, schools and community services.
Stage 1 will be undertaken during the Term 3 school holidays and will focus on rehabilitating the less damaged sections of the road. Stage 2 is scheduled for the Christmas school holidays, from 14 December 2026 to 27 January 2027, and will involve more extensive pavement reconstruction.
The second stage has also been coordinated with works to the Gatton Hospital entrance, helping reduce the overall impact on the community. Access to the hospital will be maintained throughout construction.
The investment forms part of the Australian Government’s Safer Local Roads Infrastructure Program, which supports projects aimed at delivering safer and more productive local road networks across Australia.
The William Street reconstruction is another important investment in the infrastructure that supports the Lockyer Valley’s growing communities, local businesses and essential services.
